Unsung Hero: Chris Wilcox

How great was that game last Friday!  What a great appetizer for the superbowl today!  Why was it so great?  I’ll tell you why…This was the first matchup between the Celtics and the Knicks since the disappointing opening game loss in which Melo picked apart our defense.  This game featured Rondo playing in his first game back since his injury in early January.  The Knicks were coming off a brutal loss to the Bulls and they definitely wanted to get a win to end an awful stretch of 10 losses in 12 games.  Unfortunately for the Knicks, our Celtics won 91-89 with tough work and GREAT defense.

Paul Pierce aka The Truth helped lead the Celtics down the stretch by hitting big shot after big shot.  Even the shot that didn’t count was impressive:

This Paul Pierce looks like the Truth of old and this Truth has been playing like an all star in the last 10 games.

Rondo was solid in his first game back.  He had 7 assists 5rebs and 2 steals.  Not a great night, but I will attribute that to the shiner he got in the first quarter from Iman Shumpert:

Ray Allen exploded in the fourth hitting three smooth treys off three great screens in the clutch.  This reminded me of him hitting those infamous clutch threes against the Bulls back in the 2009 playoffs.

All those contributions are great, but this game isn’t won without CHRIS WILCOX.  Yes, I said Chris Wilcox was the reason why we won.  His effort and hustle was Celtics toughness personified. He brought our group together with some clutch rebounds and hitting key free throws late in the third and early in the fourth to help the Celtics overcome the Knicks lead.  The guy definitely fits in our system and could be a key contributor in the playoffs.  Here he is talkin to espn boston and wbz:
