Report:Perkins Declines Celtics 4Yr Offer

A report on Monday was that Celtics C Kendrick Perkins was offered a 4 year contract extension by the team. It was later confirmed by a source that it was a 4 year $30 million dollar offer but later was said to be instead of a $30 million dollar deal a $22 million dollar deal over 4 years. Perk had the following to say to CSNNE.com in Charlotte on Monday:

Kendrick Perkins told CSNNE.com on Monday that Boston’s extension offer made to him was for four years around $22 million.

An earlier report by the Boston Herald cited two unnamed sources that indicated Perkins turned down a contract extension that was for four years and worth slightly less than $30 million.

“That wasn’t it. They offered me four years, but it was closer to like $22 million,” Perkins said. “You talking four years, $30 million! Shoot, that’s different. That’s a big difference.”

I have no idea what is going to come of this as I believe Perk should have taken the 4 year deal worth a reportedly $22 million dollars. I no he is one of the only true centers left in the game and extremely under rated as well as still relatively young. He is coming off major knee surgery but so far it seems to not be bothering him and we all no Perk is a workaholic and came back in great shape. Does Perkins want to pull a James Posey and go on the open market get a boat load of money and play for losing teams and maybe even get shopped around a few times because he has a big salary when a team that gave him big money realize they spent way to much money on a guy who will never be the main pierce of your team and a guy that if you play him more then you should will foul out.  It seems though that the two sides want something to get done as I can see Perk being a Celtic for the rest for his career because like KG and Paul he is the perfect Celtics player. Perkins agent and the Celtics will come to a deal if you had to ask me will Perkins be on the Boston Celtics next year and beyond. The C’s will have to go another year and a little more money to satisfy Perk and his agent. I say 5 years $35-38 million will get it done. Hit me up and follow me on twitter @Collins019

Hopefully this C’s offer was just a starting point in the negotiations. Perk and his agent have to play a bit of hard-ball, as he will be desirable by many teams on the open market, for the reason you outlined A young, true center, pls Champonship expriece, great defenseand a decent offensive game. HI’m not wrried about them getting this done. Yet.

This is all pretty routine, guys Perk’s age always turn the first offer down.
