Kobe has his “Christmas” Kicks now KG has his “Beat L.A.” Sneaks
News — By Celtics Fan 35 on January 29, 2011 at 5:24 pmThe first taunting sneaker I ever remember would have been in the very early 1990′s. A player who’s name has long since left my mind had scrawled “Kick” on the back of his left shoe and “Ass” on the rear of his right shoe. Taunting is an art that is ever evolving, and for a while football was king of the ring, then Roger Goodell put an end to any celebrations, Baseball is too boring to have a taunt other then fans heckling the players and hockey is too damn cold.
Basketball has always been a game of taunting on the fly. Larry Bird use to tell opponents that were guarding him when he let go of the long ball something to the tune of, “don’t even bother turning around that is in the net.” Some guys make a whisper as they run past the bench and some guys just laugh at Spike Lee. But KG is ushering in the era of the shoes. Here is the shoe KG plans to wear tomorrow against their foes the L.A. Lakers. If you are not all that into basketball lore and are curious about the numbers on the tongue, that is the Celtics win-loss record against the Lakers.
