Rondo Calls Out Heat
Articles, NBA News, News — By Nellie on July 26, 2010 at 10:19 amOne thing we, as Celtics fans, know about Rajon Rondo…he’ll say what’s on his mind.
If you’re not where you’re supposed to be on the court…he’ll tell you. If you missed an assignment…he’ll tell you. If he wants the ball…he’ll tell you. If you try to formulate a dream team…he’ll tell you haven’t done nothing yet.
Rondo has won 1 championship with the Boston Celtics and came within a quarter of winning a second. He knows what it takes to win, how hard it is to win, how team work will help you win. If you have no chemistry, you won’t win anything.
Rondo becomes yet another basketball star, either past or present, to take a shot at the so called Dream Team that has come to form down in the glorious city of Miami.
He joins others such as Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, amongst others, to create headlines about Chris Bosh and Lebron (Let’s Stop Calling Him “King”) James to join Dwayne Wade.
If any other player is sweating the Heat, it isn’t Rajon Rondo. “They should be good, but they ain’t done nothing yet,” Rondo said after a recent practice during Team USA’s mini camp. “They ain’t done nothing. What is there to be nervous for?” he said. “I’m worried about L.A. That’s the team we need to beat. Miami looks really good on paper, and I’m sure they’re going to be really good. But they still have to come together as a team. I’m not saying they won’t, but who knows if those guys can jell?”
“Our biggest opponent each night is ourselves – that’s how I look at it. Not to be cocky or anything, but that’s how we honestly feel. We are the defending [Eastern] champs. Once the first game of the regular season starts, that’s irrelevant. But we are going to go into training camp looking to get back to the Finals and win it.”
Rondo should know all about 3 stars coming together as one to accomplish ONE thing. A championship title. He was only in his second season in the league when he got the keys to drive the expensive Ferrari that was just handed to him by GM Danny Ainge when he acquired both Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to go along with Paul Pierce. The new found “Big Three” resulted in a championship…the first for the trio. Rondo and the Celtics were 1 quarter away from a second banner together but fell apart in the fourth quarter and lost Game 7 to the hated Lakers.
How will Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Lebron James jell? Do they understand that it isn’t going to be all about them like it has been during most of their respective careers? They are three of the biggest stars in the NBA, as a result of that have some of the biggest egos of the NBA. James in particular. Will they work as one to achieve the ultimate prize?
Everyone is eagerly awaiting for the NBA season to start to see just how good this upgraded Miami Heat team can be. Las Vegas is already claiming the Heat as the team to beat.
Boston (and L.A. I’m sure) have other ideas.

It was a great playoff run for the Boston Celtics. No one thought they would get as far as they did while taking down NBA superstars Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Dwight Howard. Even though their efforts came up short, we can't forget the main reason for the team's success. Rajon Rondo, if he hadn't already, solidified himself as one of the top point guards in the NBA. His playmaking ability was on show for the world to see and he sure did deliver. Rondo averaged 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists and even got a nickname for his in your face defense, "Grand Theft Rondo." Slowly he made everyone forget about the Big 3 and focus on the newest superstar in Boston.

Ugh. Why is everybody blowing this comment up? It’s absolutely nothing.
I have a bad feeling the winning ethic of those three is being under-rated. I think egos will get in the way at times, but the same thing that drove the 2008 Celtics could be behind the Heat. Hey, Paul Pierce’s STILL at times gets in the way at times, even to this day.
But Rajon is right, until Miami can prove something on the hardwood, they’re just a theoretical great basketball team.
