Celtics sign 2008 second round pick Erden

According to Celtics.com The team has come to terms on a contract with former second round pick Semih Erden. The 7 foot center out of Turkey was the 60th and last pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Here is the official press release:

BOSTON — The Boston Celtics announced today that they have signed center Semih Erden. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Erden, a 7-foot, 240-pound center, was selected by the Celtics with the 60th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. The native of Gaziosmanpasa, Turkey was a starter for Fenerbahce Ulker this past season when they won the Turkish League championship and averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Erden shot an impressive 62.4 percent from the field during the 42 Turkish League games that he played in last season. Erden will be competing for Turkey in the upcoming 2010 FIBA World Championships to be played in his native country.

The deal rumored to be a 1-yr deal with a team option for a second year. Erden will most likely make the league minimum for a player that has no prior experience in the NBA.

    Considering Avery Bradley isn’t playing, Erden is probably one of the players I am most interested to watch this summer. It’s no secret we need big man help and I am excited to see if this guy can provide anything for the C’s.

    I’m with you, Tyler. There’s no way he can be any worse than Patrick O’Bryant two years ago, so he’s got a real shot at making this roster. Also my man-crush on Tony Gaffney will be in full effect this summer.

    I think the celts should get younger legs. we’re thinking of getting more “vets” who can barely keep up with anyone else. We need a younger big man that we can develop and not constantly bank on the old timers. They may have the bulk but not the foot speed to catch up with the more agile centers in the league. we’re not getting any younger and adding a 38 yr old shaq or a 35 yr old miller don’t think will help too much.
